Morning run: 7km Wanaka Lakeside Drive to Beacon Point

A change of plan, due to weather warnings out west and fatigue from being a wee bit awake at night with Jack. Decided to stick in the Wanaka area for a couple more days. A splash of rain, so wanders and naps are what’s on the agenda. 📸

Today we walked 6km on the Rakatu Wetlands loop, south of Manapouri on the Waiau River. It’s part farmland that is being renewed into wildlife habitat. Late afternoon sun, and flocks of birds. It was very peaceful.

We went to see the Takahe at Te Anau bird sanctuary today. Fewer than 500 of these birds remain.

Last day at the Calvert Vineyard in Bannockburn. Driving to Te Anau for a few days.

Selfie in the Blenheim public art - a sculpture depicting the sun, appropriate for the claimed “sunniest place in New Zealand”.
The town looks like a truck stop from the highway. Turn off and there is a lovely town center, classic NZ covered walkways, lots of shops and cafes.
